Affiliation with the PALM Center

 

Faculty: 

Faculty affiliations with the PALM Center, which will be established for a period of three years, will be considered for renewal on an annual basis. Initially no maximum number of affiliations will be set.  Faculty accepted for affiliation must have research interests that mesh with the Vision, Mission, and goals of the PALM Center. The Executive Board of the PALM Center consisting of the Director and the Associate Directors will make the decision about affiliation and reaffiliation based on the application and subsequently on the annual review. Faculty affiliated with the Center will be expected to have some grant activity that contributes to the Center within every 3-year period. 

Faculty affiliates will be asked to: 

  • Complete a short application with background information and research interests or discuss these interests orally with the the PALM Center executive committee.
  • Participate regularly in scheduled meetings of the PALM Center affiliated students to discuss research, prepare for conferences, and offer advice for the PALM Center.
  • Participate regularly in scheduled meetings of the PALM Center affiliated faculty and on some occasions with students to discuss research and offer advice for the PALM Center.
  • Discuss with the Director and Associate Directors any grant applications to determine mutually whether it would be beneficial for them and the Center to submit the applications through the PALM Center.  Submission through the Center is not required.
  • Provide a digital photo, bio, and notice of any publications for the the PALM Center website, and keep this information updated on a monthly basis.
  • Commit to supporting and promoting the vision and mission of the PALM Center at FSU and elsewhere.

 Some benefits to faculty who affiliate with the PALM Center are 

  • Participation in a community of scholars (faculty & other students) with similar interests.
  • Access to numerous resources and services through LSI.
  • Support for grant applications and administration, including use of the the PALM Center name.
  • Access to resources of the center.
  • Access to a center that may be used for academic meetings.
  • Consideration for travel or other support when funds exist.
  • Access to SHARD in a smaller community

 

Doctoral Students: 

Doctoral student affiliations with the PALM Center will be considered for renewal on an annual basis. Initially no maximum number of affiliations will be set.  Students accepted for affiliation must have research interests that mesh with the Vision and Mission of the PALM Center and must be in good standing (satisfactory progress) in their doctoral program. The Executive Board of the PALM Center consisting of the Director and the Associate Directors will make the decision about affiliation based on the application and subsequently on the annual review.

 In order to be accepted as an the PALM Center affiliate, a doctoral student must: 

  • Complete a short application with background information and research interests.
  • Participate regularly in scheduled meetings of the PALM Center affiliated students to discuss research, prepare for conferences, and offer advice for the PALM Center.
  • Inform Executive Committee of any external grants of which they are a part.
  • Provide a digital photo, bio, and notice of any publications for the the PALM Center website, and keep this information updated on a monthly basis.
  • Commit to supporting and promoting the vision and mission of the PALM Center at FSU and elsewhere.

 Some benefits to doctoral students who affiliate with the PALM Center are: 

  • Participation in a community of scholars (faculty & other students) with similar interests.
  • Support for grant applications and administration, including use of the the PALM Center name.
  • Access to a center where they can carry out work in dedicated doctoral carrels.
  • Access to resources of the center.
  • Access to a center that may be used for academic meetings.
  • Consideration for fellowships when they exist
  • Consideration for travel or other support when funds exist
